Discovery Flights

If you're thinking about becoming a pilot, one of your first steps will be a Discovery Flight.

This will be your first flight as a pilot, with the flight-time entered in your brand-new pilot's logbook.

You can expect a busy day, along with an adventure that you'll never forget.

When you arrive at our location, you will meet with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). After covering a few basic details, you'll get in the pilot's seat, put on your headset, and help start the engine.

Once that's done, you'll receive a clearance and taxi to the runway-in-use at the Aurora Airport, where you will receive another clearance — this time for takeoff.

Your flight-time will be about 45 minutes. After the departure and level-off at 3,000 feet, your instructor will give you the controls and show you how to do some of the flight fundamentals, such as straight-and-level, turns, and a descent.

After that, you'll receive a clearance from the Aurora State Airport control tower to re-enter the airspace. You'll work with your instructor to align the airplane on final approach. You also will follow along on the flight controls during the landing.

After taxiing back to parking and shutting down the airplane, you'll conduct a post-flight briefing with your instructor. This is a great time to ask questions! You also will receive your first logbook with the flight-time logged and signed by your instructor.
